The 2004 BCBC Fall Mini-Symposium was scheduled
for Saturday, December 4th, from 8:30am to 1:00pm. Three hour-long presentations were given by
Dr. Daniel Brazeau, Dr. Yulan Liang, and Dr. Matthew Beal. Dr. Brazeau introduced some basic
concepts of biology and genomics. Dr. Liang discussed basic concepts in statistics and informatics.
Dr. Beal presented basic concepts in computing and machine learning. This mini-symposium
provided helpful perspectives for our trainees and graduate research assistants, and it
also afforded interaction between members of the research community who do not often have a chance
to get together.
